About Dr. Steven
I’m Dr. Steven, a queer licensed clinical psychologist dedicated to creating a space where insight meets action. In the therapy space, I specialize in evidence-based treatment for mood symptoms, anxiety, trauma, identity, and relationship concerns—particularly within LGBTQ+ and other underserved communities.
With a background in both research and clinical practice, I bring a deep understanding of how systems, identity, and lived experience intersect. I’ve worked with youth, adults, and couples across a wide range of settings, offering a flexible, affirming, and collaborative approach rooted in several therapy approaches.
Beyond the therapy room, I consult on projects related to mental health equity, diversity, and LGBTQ+ inclusion, as well as private practice and the research process. I have published research on sexual and gender identity, non-monogamy, mental health, suicide, affirming therapy, schools, and risk and protective factors for underserved groups.
Whether you’re navigating a personal transition, facing burnout, seeking clarity in your relationships, evolving your company, or just trying to find your footing—I’m here to help.
Therapy Services
I offer therapy that is affirming, collaborative, and rooted in evidence-based practices. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to make meaningful change.
Individual Therapy
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, or life transitions, individual therapy can help you build insight, gain coping tools, and feel more grounded in who you are.
Couples Therapy
I work with couples of all identities and relationship structures—including non-monogamous and polyamorous partnerships—to improve communication, deepen connection, and address challenges with care and curiosity.
Gender-Affirming Therapy & Evaluations
I provide gender-affirming care, including support through social and medical transitions, letters for gender-affirming procedures, and space to explore identity without judgment or assumption.
For all of my services, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), tailoring sessions to your needs—not a one-size-fits-all model.
Research
My research focuses on the mental health and well-being of LGBTQ+ and other underserved communities, with particular attention to gender, sexuality, identity development, non-monogamy / polyamory, and experiences of marginalization.
I’ve published studies on topics including:
Suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youth
The role of family and community support in mental health outcomes
Relationships among queer and non-monogamous individuals
The impact of bullying on LGBTQ+ youth
Empirically-based treatment with LGBTQ+ youth
The impact of anti-trans laws on suicide among trans youth
The importance of sexuality education for LGBTQ+ youth
And more!
My work has been featured in academic journals, community briefs and reports, and various media publications. I strive to make research accessible, actionable, and rooted in the voices of those most impacted.
I enjoy collaborating with organizations on research design, data analysis, and translating findings into meaningful advocacy and policy change. Let’s work together!
